Meet The Clubs
Bitton Park
Bitton Park Bowls Club has approximately 80 members, covering all ages and abilities, and anyone wishing to join will be made very welcome. We are able to play up to seven rinks on one of the best greens in Devon, managed by our own members with professional advice. We enter two teams in the Men's Mid Devon Bowling League and two teams in the Men's Over 55's League. The Ladies also field two teams in the South Devon Ladies Bowling League.
Club members participate in County and National competitions, as well as a full programme of tourist matches, friendly fixtures and club competitions. New members will encouraged to join in, but always at their own pace.
For many years Bitton Park Bowling Club has been one of the clubs in the Teignmouth area who have played host to the Teignmouth Open Bowls Tournament which is now held in September of each year.
Abbrook Park
In 1981 various meetings were called and the decision was made to approach the WBB Management requesting a piece of land suitable for building a bowls green. Fred was elected the representative to approach Mr John Pike (son of Mr Claude Pike – Managing Director of WBB) with the proposition and after some deliberation a plot was offered. The Works Manager, Mr Eric Ash was brought onboard and his approval was given to use machinery and lorries on the understanding that a comprehensive plan was drawn up. In order to proceed, the Playing Fields Association was approached and they were very helpful providing useful information and a drawing of a bowling green together with relevant measurements. Armed with this information the prospective bowlers set about building the green. The club now has over 80 playing members.
The Den
The people of Teignmouth demanded a Bowling green, other nearby places, such as Dawlish, had them, and we were losing out, both as a tourist attraction and as a local facility for all of Teignmouth to enjoy.
After much discussion the council agreed that Teignmouth could not be left behind. Part of the Den was then levelled off with the waste from the Brimley widening. This has resulted in a well drained green which was opened in 1910.
Shaldon
The bowling green is set in the centre of the village surrounded by Georgian houses and viewable from the London Inn ,one of the local hostelries. It is a quirky green and you can find out more if you read the history. Aside from it's quaintness it is one of the most successful clubs in Devon and provides bowlers for the County and for England. It has two men's teams in the Mid Devon Bowling League and the Over 55's Triples League and the ladies have a team in the South Devon Ladies Bowling League.
